Back in December Paula and I made the short trip to Troy to visit Mooselick Brewery. It’s one of four breweries…and the latest addition… in the Monadnock Region brewery scene. We were not sure what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised by the warm charm of this nano brewery tap room and the quality and selection of their quaffs!
We arrived just as they were opening for the day (4PM on a Friday) and were the first ones in the door. We ordered a flight of their six beers on tap so we could try them all and it wasn’t long before the small place filled up with excited and friendly customers looking to fill up their half-growlers with the selections of the day.
The patrons swapped stories and shared suggestions on other wonderful nano and micro brewery experiences they’ve had around the country. I’d never had a nano brewery experience before, so watching them fill the half growlers and smaller bottle sizes on request was neat…unlike any other brewery experience I have had before.
We tried everything from a light golden ale to a smooth drinking double IPA with a whopping 7.7% ABV. We especially enjoyed three of the selections and ordered up some half-growlers of Mating Saison (farmhouse ale), Atmoosphere (double IPA) and Moose on the Roof (citrusy IPA) as gifts. All were great!
So what about this NH Beer Trail I mentioned in the blog title? Well, many of the NH breweries are working together to offer a “tour” of NH breweries. Snag one of their handy dandy brewery “passports” and take it with you from location to location. Get your passport stamped at each brewery you visit and when you’ve visited at least ten breweries you start collecting swag!
All four of the Monadnock breweries are on the list so Little River Bed & Breakfast would be a great home base for your tour!
